Carcassonne is located in France. It is famous for La Cite, a fortified city which is included in the list of UNESCO world heritage sites since 1997. In this post, I won’t be talking about this castle-like medieval structure, because I have written about it previously. (Please click the link above )
Let me take you to the place outside the castle, where we wandered around the winding streets full of tourists, cafes and souvenir shops.

Known as the Bastide de Saint-Louis, this area of Carcassonne was built outside the walls in the 13th century. There is a completely different ambience here as compared to La Cite. In the main square and fountain can be found an abundance of sitting bronze statues.
The art scene is truly alive in Carcassonne with the presence of the Musee des Beaux-Arts which features old style paintings, modern artworks as well as contemporary art installations.
What a beautiful post! I love the statues of the children!

I have been to Carcassonne several times, but I have never visited this part of the city, caught up in the outstanding Medieval City. I’ll make a note of that for next time. Thanks for sharing.

Yes, La Cite is amazing, but around it are some beautiful spots as well. Well, next time. 👍🏼
