Travel in Colour

“Life is about using the whole box of crayons.” – RuPaul

I love colour as you can see in my past posts…the brighter the better. Here are some of the places I’ve been to that are so brilliantly coloured that you may think they are just photoshopped. But they are real alright.

Burano is a fisherman’s island with the most colourful houses in Italy. This Venetian island is known for its brightly coloured and photogenic buildings. According to a local, legend says that they were painted to distinguish between houses during fog season.

“The best color is the one that makes you happy.” – unknown

In Venice, while cruising on a gondola. Not as colourful as Burano, but this is Italy, so the old buildings are still painted brightly and the bricks’s texture are so alive.

“Color is the place where our brain and the universe meet.” – Paul Klee

The colour of the buildings and apartments in Budapest made my day bright and cheery though it was such a rainy day.

“Life is a great big canvas; throw all the paint you can at it.” – Danny Kaye

I believe that they coloured the buildings brightly in these London towns so as to make their days brighter, as it is believed that London is a very gloomy place. Do you think so? Neil’s Yard Covent Gardens and near Camden Market.

“Colors speak all languages.” – Joseph Addison

Szentendre is a small country town in Hungary with a lot of shops that are very colourful and picturesque. It is lovely how it has preserved its ancient look.

“Why do two colors, put one next to the other, sing? Can one really explain this?” – Pablo Picasso

The old Hongkong streets and the new Macau casinos with all its oriental colours.

Beautiful colours – just the sort of thing I love to photograph! Although as a Londoner I would challenge your assertion that it’s always gloomy here 😆 I’ll have to post some photos one day to prove you wrong!
