South Melbourne Market Murals

“Art is not what you see, but what you make others see.” – Degas

The South Melbourne Market used to be open 4 days a week but because of COVID-19 its doors are indefinitely shut.

Here are some murals inside the market that highlights the faces of people that have worked there, or have visited the market in more than a decade. Most of it represents multiculturalism as people who work there have come from all sorts of backgrounds.

This is the work of Cam Scale who started his career in early 2000. He is a well known artist that does large scale portraits with aerosol, oil and acrylic.

  1. Love the murals with the faces, really well done.
    Thanks for participating Teresa.
(PS: you might have changed the background, it’s a bit difficult to read the text with the dark background or maybe the writing should be brighter white)

  2. Beautiful portraits!

So sad that so many places are closed in Melbourne but it seems you are getting it under control. We appear to be going into a second wave, bars are now required to closed at 11.
Casinos opened today with a max of 50 people at a time. Hopefully we can avoid a second lockdown.
