“Life is the art of drawing without an eraser.” –John W. Gardner
I was a graphic designer by profession in the Philippines. I was a Senior Designer for 10 years, but when I came to Australia in 1991, I put all that in the back of my mind. It was recession when I arrived and no one was hiring. And every time I got an interview they would ask about my local experience in art here in Australia. I don’t want to lie and say that I have experience , when in fact I don’t.
So I stayed home as a full time mum to my then one year old son. I worked doing odd jobs here and there and then I had my second baby. I became a full time mum again for a few years. Then when my kids were both at school I began working again. I worked in different kinds of jobs but none of them were related to art.
A lot of my former classmates in the University are convincing me to go back to painting. But, like a plague, I stayed away from it…I kept on saying that I had lost my touch… that I don’t want to do it anymore … that I don’t have the time to do it.
Now that I am past my golden years, this is the first time that I tried using my pen again. And it sure is surprising how I’ve missed it. I want to try and give myself a second chance.
