S is for Steeples and Spires

“The purpose of our lives is to be happy.” – Dalai Lama

I don’t know why I am fascinated by the spires of churches, but when I see it, I am in awe of its majestic religious structure. Commonly used in Gothic architecture, it symbolises the spiritual pointing to the heavens.

For Lens Artist Photo Challenge – Subject starting with the Letter S – Steeples & Spires

St Anne Church of Budapest, Hungary

Matthias Church in Budapest, Hungary

St Stephen Cathedral in Vienna, Austria

St Martin Cathedral in Bratislava, Slovakia

Why else would Prague be known as the City of a Hundred Spires… here are just a few of its churches.

St Lawrence Church in Petrin Hill, Prague

St Nicholas Church on Old Town Square

Church of Our Lady Before Tyn

St Vitus Cathedral

The Spires of Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, France

Burgos Cathedral in Spain

St Mark’s Basilica in Venice

And of course, I wouldn’t miss the different views of the spires in La Sagrada Familia in Barcelona.

Wow Teresa – you ARE fascinated by spires! What a wonderful collection. Have seen several of these, including St. Stephen’s which is a personal favorite, but it looks like I need to go back to several of them to capture what I’ve missed!

Yes, sometimes when we are in a hurry to see as much as we can in a certain place, especially when we are on tour, we tend to miss out on things.
