“What is the meaning of life? To be happy and useful.” – Dalai Lama

Australian street artist Matt Adnate or just “ADNATE” painted this endearing mural of the Dalai Lama in the rear of a building in Fitzroy, a suburb of Melbourne. The three storey mural was painted a few years ago to pay tribute to His Highness, whom he met in person when he went to India.

The current Dalai Lama became the political leader of Tibet at the age of fifteen. He is the principal monk of Tibetan Buddhism and is the longest Lama to hold this position of influence. .

Portrait murals are unusual, and also more vulnerable to being defaced. Too bad this one was not respected.

Adnate is such a great artist. Great portrait of the Dalai Lama, but what a pity there is so much graffiti surrounding the mural. Thanks for participating in Monday Murals Teresa.

I agree, I love Adnate’s murals. But I guess this was from a few years ago that is why it was already graffitied.

  6. I’m late visiting, but still agree with others. It’s a very realistic image, but why they had to take it is beyond me.
