“Life doesn’t come with a manual, it comes with a mother.”- Unknown
I had my Mother’s Day celebration yesterday in a Japanese restaurant named Gogyo, on the corner of Brunswick and Westgarth streets in Fitzroy. It has an exterior mural and the images are based on the idea of their restaurant name ‘GOGYO’ which means five elements in Buddhism term – wood, fire, earth, metal and water.
The mural spans the whole side wall, including its doors and windows. It shows a modern interpretation of wuxing (the five Chinese elements) by celebrated Sydney-based artist Kentaro Yoshida.

Noren is a traditional Japanese curtain or Japanese fabric divider used for dividing between rooms and hanging on walls, in doorways, or in windows. It also shows here the five elements as in the mural – wood, fire, earth, metal and water

Another Mother’s Day done and dusted! And one happy mumma here!

That’s a beautiful mural, Teresa, and I am glad to hear you had a lovely Mother’s Day, guys. In Ireland, Mother’s Day was celebrated at the end of March, but we as Latvian usually mark the occasion in May. This way, I always end up with two Mother’s day celebrations 🙂 Thanks for sharing and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

That’s an impressive mural! Glad you enjoyed your Mother’s Day treat. Here in the UK it’s celebrated in March, not May (halfway through Lent) so it’s been slightly strange seeing all the Mother’s Day posts from around the world!
